The start of the exceptional project was accompanied by symbolic tapping on an iconic glass “screen”, one of approximately 4,000 glass shaped pieces that make up the unique façade designed by Stanislav Libenský.

Metrostav’s Division 9 is the leader of the contractor association, the project is managed by Lukáš Březina. The project’s investor is the National Theatre.

Before the handover of the construction site, the cleared building was inspected by representatives of the government and the media in the presence of Director General of the National Theatre Jan Burian; Chairman of the Board of Executive Officers Jaroslav Heran, CEO Karel Volf, Director of Division 9 Martin Sirotek and others attended the event for Metrostav CZ. The renovation will transform the New Stage into a modern multifunctional space with a variable arrangement of the stage and auditorium, thus fulfilling the original vision of architect Karel Prager and set designer Josef Svoboda. At the same time, emphasis will be placed on preserving the character of the building and its valuable architectural features, including the serpentine tiles, spiral staircase and iconic glass façade. The project also includes the creation of a new small hall, a rehearsal room, educational spaces and a café that will connect the theatre building to náměstí Václava Havla. Both projects will undergo technological modernisation to increase energy efficiency and ensure more environmentally-friendly operations.
